Can we get a " mark all posts read" button in the "New & Updated topics" we get more people here and the unread list is going to get real long and going into ever thread for 20 - 30 or more post is not practical.
(sorry first posted this in the wrong place)

It would be real nice if people would put their age in the signature so people would know how to interact with them. I some one slides they could put the age range.

I notice that when you scroll down the room list the names above the pic's do not show up unless you rollover them, can we have it where the names show as we scroll up or down.
Tidbits Bout Me
I suggest that those are good suggestions.

How about if I add a suggestion to do that in the explanation text of "Tidbits", and add a request to do that to the Read Me First doc?
I know it sounds clunky, but in the past I've asked people to always refer to themselves as "Innerkid" rather than "kid", and other words like that, to make sure it's clear everywhere that we're not a place for Biokids.
Even with a relatively PG atmosphere, I hate the thought of either real Biokids joining up because they see what they think are other "10 year olds", -and- of ever encouraging anyone out there to confuse Adult Ageplay and Biokids.
(It's funny, it seems like SUCH a short time ago, it was laughable to worry about young kids coming to websites, they didn't use computers much, or at least didn't yet socialize online. I just heard on NPR that 3-year-olds are the fastest-growing demographic on the Net now!)
Think it's too much to ask people to say things like "My Innerkid's age is 10" rather than "I'm 10"? Am I fussing over something that doesn't matter?

I always hated it when people would come to a community and then just use the chatroom and not be part of the rest of it, 'cause the chatroom is only a community of the people in it at any one time, it doesn't leave any legacy, accumulating history, of goings on and opinions and stuff, like posting does -- so I prolly subconsciously obfuscated the chatroom thing.
I'll rename it right now to be more clear, and ponder where in all this mess links to featured spots like the chatroom could be listed.

I was trying to go for a visual experience, you know? Depictions of areas around the Island so it was a -little- closer to actually strolling around looking at things to figure them out, like you would if you were visiting the actual Island. Like, bedrooms don't usually have a sign on them saying "Bedroom", you look in and you see it looks like a bedroom.
Do you think the depictions could be improved to accomplish making it more a visual experience, than a website-forum experience? I don't have much visual or artistic talent.
(I just set the CSS for the text links to the same color as the background so it's just a few keystrokes to make them show up again, if I'm just making it too hard by trying to look as little like a forum as possible).

I'm one of those 'mostly chatroom' users. But hear me out! I like the chatroom because it's more interactive. I can get a little impatient (refresh refresh refresh) when I post something on the island. But then again, I come from the 'chatroom era' of the internet.

Ugh, and that's some pretty gnarly handling of nested quotes, isn't it. Jot jot jot.

I was wondering.... yanno when you do maintenance and the site goes offline for a while? could we have a warning? Like in the scribble box thing. (Does that make a sound when messages come up there, im not sure?)
Just because... Its happened twice where I've been halfway through posting something (both times quite long thinky somethings typically) when it has.

Oooh, quelle bummage! That stinks! Yes, I can do that, no problem.
The Net connection over here on the backside of the Island can be spotty, so I usually write posts in a text editor then paste it into a post for my own sanity in case it times out trying to post, but ya shouldn't have to do that.
When we're open to the public, I won't be working on it so much, so it won't be in maintenance mode very often. Sorry you got tripped up by m'tinkerin!!

Sorry to say but it is a forum, in rl I can't see what someone said 2 days ago but I like that here I can. If I want instant reality I go to SL, if I want to talk to frineds that I can't talk to in instant rl because they are busy or different time zomes I go to a forum like here. GI is a forum like it or not so make it a great one.
Sorry if I am out of line.

Second suggestion!
Well before I mentioned if we could have the 'read new replies to your post' button back... but on second thoughts.... would it be possible to be able to subscribe to posts (and unsubscribe!). Right now it doesn't matter cause its quiet enough to filter activity.... but... I know when it gets busier I want a way of keeping tabs of threads i'm in, discussions i'm interested in, or my favourite blogs!

Ari, there are a couple of ways that "subscribing" is used in community or social site terms, usually it means "I want to be notified when a new post to this thread occurs". Is that the kind of thing you're looking for?
Then there is "following" a thread or a person, which usually I think applies to social sites oriented as "activity feeds", where most of the output is a serial list of new posts of various things, such that one can choose to only see in their feed the things they have chosen to "follow".
I haven't oriented this site toward the usual Spacebook 'activity feed' very much, but is that latter the kind of thing you mean? To only see activity in threads you've chosen to "follow"?

Yeah the list of all new and updated threads was gotten to by a horizontal tab menu that might not be visible on phones.
(Man it has gotten *complicated* being a webmeister lately, with the illions and illions of different tiny devices you have to make your site display on. Specially if you're going for a visual kind of thing rather than just a site that gives stark info).
So please know that as soon as I have what I consider the most crucial features finished, which is 95% there, I will be then focusing on making the mobile version more friendly.
Does the Transporter floating toolbar display right on your phone? I have changed the "Haps" item on it to display the list of all new or replied-to threads. Does that display render right on your phone?
Maybe I could recruit you to help me with phone-testing shortly. You kind of have to prioritize what you want to display on small devices, without the luxury of spreading stuff out horizontally, putting things that might be in sidebars on a real computer above or below the main content, so you have to decide what's important enough to go before, with the downside of making people scroll down through more stuff to get to the meat of the subject.

I no like runnin' in wiz dee-mands but i thinks something that showed who in playrooms aka chat would helps as most sites r nos with chat find when people see who in, they flock to it where at de mo ment you n idea who if anyones is and wiz no set times it very hit and miss to finds people.
I thinks de role playing forum is good especially where yoo has big time zone difference as yoo can leave things fu each other. I likes that fur a record and building up community, I likes chat for just play and goofing around.

The Transporter floating toolbar displays fine on my phone.
But the message windows are squished over to the right, making message lines 2 to 4 characters per line depending on the font. It makes it nearly impossible for me to use my android phone here.

I'm hearing noises this isn't an easy to navigate site on smartphones where many people do their social computer use on although I don't own one. Sometime where it's available looking around that may help the site grow as well as many of issues cross over to tablets.
Joanne
o Should be able to reply to individual posts in a thread OR to the main topic
o Be nice to be able to "tag" specific users in a post, notify them that they have been tagged
o the 'chat room' is frustrating! Need an 'always visible' control displaying current count of 'chat' users and dropdown list of names. also the chat room should be a pop-up window that does not require exiting the main navigation page.

The last suggestion I'd agree with as as things are, you don't know if anyone is in chat, never mind if several are which makes using it difficult. When it comes to the seeing chat screen I usually right click it to a separate tab, which is what I do other sites with chat rooms so I can flip back to the main forum.by clicking on the appropriate tab of my browser.
